Michel's Bakery Café today celebrated the official grand opening in Ottawa of its new location at the St. Laurent Centre and a significant redesign of its Rideau Centre location. To mark the occasion, Michel's has partnered with the CHEO Foundation, part of Children's Miracle Network, and brought Executive Chef Philip Smith to Ottawa to provide guests and media with a culinary demonstration and a chance to sample the bakery café's fresh made European-inspired menu.

"We are thrilled to be bringing the new Michel's Bakery Café to Ottawa. We feel this market will really embrace our true European-inspired bakery café serving fresh, quality, convenient cuisine," said Philip Smith.

In combining contemporary flavours and wholesome ingredients, Michel's is proud to offer an ever-evolving selection of delights for those who have an appetite for the best in life.

Michel's offers freshly baked breads, scones, croissants, Danishes, soups, sandwiches and fresh ground coffee using the finest high quality ingredients, and no preservatives or additives.

Launched in 1979 at Toronto's Eaton Centre, as Michel's Baguette's, the brand quickly became famous for its amazing pastries. Not only could customers smell the pastries, but they could see them being baked throughout the day, not just in the morning.

The growth and maturation of the brand into Michel's Bakery Café reflects the growing desire of Canadian consumers for wholesome, quality, gourmet meal options.

From February 15 - 20, 2011, a percentage of all proceeds from sales at both Michel's Bakery Café Ottawa locations will be donated to the CHEO Foundation.

About Michel's Bakery Café

In 1979, Michael and Lou Bregman opened the first Michel's Baguette at the Toronto Eaton Centre. What made this café different was the premium quality and great selection of pastries, sandwiches and salads. The first new Michel's Bakery Café, designed by Mackay Wong Strategic Design, opened in October 2010 with a refreshed, updated store design, name and logo. In November 2009, Michel's Baguette was purchased by Bruegger's Enterprises Inc., of Vermont, USA, and is operated as a retail division of Threecaf Brands Canada Inc, which includes Michel's Bakery Café, Timothy's World Coffee and Bruuegger's-mmmuffins Canada.
