New liquor regulation in Newfoundland and Labrador
As of Nov. 1, 2010, licensed establishments in Newfoundland and Labrador – such as bars, lounges and clubs – must ensure patrons vacate their premises within 60 minutes after the regulated closing time for alcohol sale.
CRFA worked with regulators and the police to develop rules that ensure establishments operate within their licence and legislative requirements that prohibit sale and consumption of alcohol after the permitted time. These regulations also support law enforcement’s efforts to monitor possible after-hours activity and maintain public safety.

The new regulation is also consistent with those of many other Canadian provinces and territories where patrons must vacate licensed establishments after set times.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, regulations have required customers to finish drinks within 30 minutes after the legislated time for the close of alcohol sale. Until now, no law required them to exit the premises. |
