CRFA has endorsed New Brunswick’s new Food Premises Regulation that is more consistent with national standards and offers operators increased flexibility.
The new regulation is less prescriptive on construction requirements and focuses more on food safety and risk. Also, for the first time, non-profit entities that often compete with commercial establishments will be required to follow the same food safety practices as their for-profit counterparts.
The Food Premises Regulation has been expanded to include all premises where food is processed, prepared, stored, handled, displayed, transported, sold and/or offered for sale.
Following consultation with CRFA, the new regulation took effect on Nov. 20, 2009. It replaces the Health Act and Regulation 88-200 under which eating establishments have been licensed in the province.
