CRFA Update
Following CRFA action, Finance Minister Raymond Bachand has extended the deadline for tax technology subsidies to May 31. In a recent meeting with Revenue Quebec Deputy Minister Raymond Boisvert, CRFA requested this extension as installer delays were affecting restaurants’ abilities to upgrade by the original deadline of March 31. We also pushed against fining operators for not issuing a customer receipt for every transaction.
Restaurants have been awarded a total of $44 million in subsidies to upgrade their cash registers or point-of-sale (POS) systems to connect to sales recording modules (SRMs) or “black boxes.” According to the original schedule, restaurants upgrading before March 31 would receive a subsidy based on 80 per cent of annual sales; after that date, the subsidy would be halved to 40 per cent.
Deadlines to know
To qualify for the 80 per cent subsidy within the new deadline, operators must:
- confirm acquisition of equipment for the subsidy program through a written contract with an installer by April 15; and
- have operating SRMs in their restaurants by May 31 (after this date, only a 40 per cent subsidy will be available).
