Following recommendations of the province’s Minimum Wage Board, Saskatchewan will keep its minimum wage at $9.25 per hour, unchanged since 2009. From 2008 to 2009 alone, the province’s minimum wage has risen three times for a total increase of more than 16 per cent.

CRFA met with Minimum Wage Board officials in late 2009 to encourage a wage freeze, as well as wage differentials for trainees and tipped servers. Many foodservice operators also participated in our “Rethinking Minimum Wage in Saskatchewan” petition campaign this past spring. As wage reviews are mandated every two years in Saskatchewan, the next review will take place by Dec. 31, 2011.

In the meantime, the government says it will review opportunities to index minimum wage by the end of this year. CRFA will continue to actively participate in this issue on behalf of Saskatchewan’s foodservice operators.
